I Never Knew…

I’m baaaaaack! After 8 years I’ve come to blog again!!


Just a short preface before I begin my blog.

 My husband David and I recently moved to Hawaii after a lifetime of living in Arizona. We have always wanted to travel to New Zealand and now that we were living so much closer we decided to do it! So I got to work planning our trip. And then… WHAT THE HECK!?!? New Zealand is not one island, but two!! (I actually learned there are technically three islands but one is really small.) 


And New Zealand is MUCH larger than I had always thought!  It is actually about the size of the state of California! OK, that’s a good one I was definitely ignorant and I apologize to every Kiwi (as the New Zealanders are fondly called) out there. 

So, long story short, I revised my original plans and still came up with an amazing itinerary. So please join me and my husband on our adventure!

Back to Where it All Started, Auckland!

Good bye Pokeno! After a relaxing morning at our lovely rural Airbnb (we LOVED the  chickens squawking and a peacock calling, and a big dog named Meg padding around outside, it reminded me of my home growing up!)  We met our host Vita and her husband and son as we were packing to leave. Had a lovely conversation with them about their country and their family life.  For our last day here in New Zealand, we are heading back into Auckland, but had a short side destination we had to visit first…… We found out that there was a Simpson Strong Tie satellite office here in Rosedale, which is a suburb of Auckland! We went by to say hello. Who knows, one day we might be here!?  It could happen … And maybe THIS could be where we live … Beautiful Daisy covered lots for sale overlooking the green mountains in the distance… What more could we ask for? Adventures in Tauranga

Mount Maunganui Here we Come! After a good nights sleep and a strong cup of coffee, I was ready to start a new day. We took showers (I have to say I love the towel warmers here!) and prepared for whatever the day would hold for us. We decided to head to Mount Maunganui, which is another extinct volcano in this region. You have to dress in layers we have learned because when the sun is out, you are so warm and then it goes behind a cloud and the wind blows and you’re cold!    Downtown Mount Maunganui is a quaint, cute, beautiful little area. We stopped for breakfast at Blondies deli and diner. David ordered us drinks first and I got just an iced latte and he got an iced chocolate. We discovered that an iced chocolate is really just chocolate milk! Lol too funny. For breakfast I got avocado toast with these cherry tomatoes on top that were so perfectly cooked. Heading Home

  Red Eye Flight The airport was only about a half an hour from the Viaduct. Believe me, the last bit of this driving was enough to push David and I both over the edge! We had to fill the car with gas and it was just a hot mess finding the right alleyway to pull into to get to the gas station. But we did it!  Then we were just around the corner from the airport and we drove by and couldn’t find where to return the rental car. We asked a nice lot attendant and we had to drive around the whole airport again to get to the right entrance. But we did it!  Then we struggled to find a parking space for our rental car. But we did it! Park the car and we were home free!  No accidents, one NEAR miss, a few missed turns on the round-a-bouts, and a LOT of stress just watching the road making sure we stayed on the correct side! but we did it!
